For more detailed instructions on all parts of the software go through the software documentation here. There are also nice videos in this section that are very helpful.

Starting a Test

Download and Install

Go to the download page by clicking here. If you are using Internet Explorer, check the recommendation for your computer. The website checks if you have the .Net Framework upgrade on your computer and recommends the correct download.

If you are using any other browser the page will instruct you on how to determine what download to select.

If you downloaded a copy that has .Net with it you will need to unzip the file. After the files are extracted click on the setup.exe file to install both the .Net Framework from Microsoft and the Spelling Made Simple Software.

If you downloaded a copy without .Net, (since your computer already has the .Net Framework installed) just run the Spelling Made Simple Setup.msi file

Starting and Creating a User

Start the program from the icon on your desktop.

Create a user by selecting the "Create User" button.

Select the name in the list and click "Login".

Register

After purchasing the software and getting an account you can register the software. After 30 days the registration box will appear automatically in the software. Before 30 days there is a menu item at the top of the application named register - click that. The register menu will only be there if you haven’t registered the software yet.

If you are registering version 1.5 and higher and you are connected to the internet with that computer, you can just enter your email and password under the "New Way" tab.

An email is sent to you when you purchase the software. This email gives simple instructions on how to set your password. You then place your email and the password you created in these fields and click “Unlock”.

If you are registering an older version or the computer you are registering this software on is not connected to the internet, select the "Old Way" and follow the instructions below.

Register using the "Old Way"

Go to the website and click login in the upper right corner of the page. Enter the key given to you by the software. After entering the key into the site click the Decode button on the website. Take the result that the website generated on the next page and place it into the application right under the key. Click unlock and you are good to go.

Creating or Downloading a List

To create a list click on the “Add Word List Center” and click the “Create New List” button

You can add words to the new list by typing the word in the box within the “Edit List Controls” area and clicking “Add Word” or hitting the enter key. Click “Get Audio” to obtain the audio recordings from the Spelling Made Simple server. If audio is not found for some words try again later. The software manufacturer continues to add additional words to the audio section as users request them.

To import lists from the website, first go to www.spellingmadesimple.com and click the “Spelling Lists” in the left bar.

Select the lists you want to import and save them to a location you can access later.

Now extract the file or files to a location you will remember.

In the Add Word List Center click the "Active List Manager" Button.

Click “Import List” and navigate to the location where you saved the lists. Select all the lists you wish to import by using the shift and/or Ctrl keys. Then click "Open".

You will notice all the lists that were selected are in the Active Lists area and are ready for testing. You may first want to get the audio from the Add Word List Center.

Get Audio for a List

To get audio for your list of words, load the list by selecting it in the drop down box and click "Load List". Then click the "Get Audio" button in the lower left of the form.

Starting a Test

In the test center select a list from the drop down box and you are ready to test. Click the "Ready" button and begin the test.
