This software will work on Windows 98 and above

This application was built using the new .Net Framework from Microsoft.

This is the new version 2.1.6. Let me know if you find any bugs in it.
Thanks,
Benjamin Gerten
Creator/Owner

I am currently testing a version for the Mac. Email me if you are interested in the Mac version.

For Windows 98 Only

Any Other Windows Computer:

Version with the .Net Framework - 43.9 MB

MAC Version - 50% Functionality (I need to keep working on it)

Here is my first version of Spelling Made Simple for the Mac. It works on my tiger 10.4. You need to have the two programs (See below).

Spelling Made Simple for MAC

Unzip it and click "Run Spelling Made Simple" to try it on your Mac.

I plan to continue to work on it and get the other features working too.

Two pieces of software need to be installed on your computer first for this software to be able to run.

1. X11 needs to be installed. If your OS is Tiger then http://cjmart.in/2006/12/01/install-x11-on-tiger-without-the-tiger-install-dvd/

If it is Leopard it is installed by default.

2. Mono http://www.go-mono.com/mono-downloads/download.html

After these two are installed the Mac version should run on your computer. I do have other features turned off at this time just to get a working version out sooner. I will let you know when I have an update for you.

The Basics to Get Started

User Guide

You may want to take a quick look at what the user guide has to offer. The install places an icon for the user guide on your desktop. Open it and take a quick look at all of the step by step instructions.

Create User

Step 1
The software starts at the login window. If a username needs to be created, click the “Create User” button.
Step 2
Enter a username and click “Done”.
Step 3
The new user will be displayed in the white window. Click the username and click “Login”.

Create List

Step 1
To create a custom spelling list, open the Add Word List Center as shown below.
Step 2
Next click the “Create New List” button as shown below.
Step 3
Enter descriptive information for your new list. The list name is the only required field. When you are finished, click “Done” as shown below.
Step 4
Your new list will be loaded and ready to start adding words. Enter a word and click “Add Word” or hit enter to add a word to the list as shown below.

Get Audio

Step 1
To get the audio files for a list from the Spelling Made Simple server, first select the list. Then click the “Get Audio” button.
Step 2
You will notice that the “no” in the audio column will change to a “yes” if audio for that word is found.

Take Test

Step 1
In the Test Center, a list can be selected from the drop down box and the “Ready” button can be clicked when the user is ready to start the test. Depending on the user settings, the word will be shown for the amount of time specified and will then disappear or the saved audio will be played.
Step 2
The enter key can be pressed to make the word disappear quicker than planned.
Step 3
A text box will appear and the spelling word can then be typed in that area. The user can then click the “Submit” button or just hit the enter key.
Step 4
If the word is correct the Correct message will be displayed for an amount of time specified in the user settings. The enter key can be pressed to make the message disappear quicker than planned. If the words are spelled correctly they will disappear off the word list to the right. When a word is spelled wrong it will show up in the retry list. After the normal list is done, the words in the retry list will be tried again. When they are correct they also will disappear off the list. When the test is done the user can select another list or just exit the application.
