Spelling Software - User Settings

Version 1.6

This is old documentation for versions 1.6 and lower. Check out the new documentation here.

To change the user settings, the user must click the “User Settings” under the tools menu. The user settings that can be altered are:

  1. Text Only, Audio Only, or Text and Audio
  2. Show Upcoming Words During Test
  3. Show Definition Button During Test
  4. Match Case During Spelling Test
  5. Start Application in Compact Mode
  6. Check S.M.S. Server for Audio
  7. Show Word for so Many Seconds
  8. Show Correct or Wrong for so Many Seconds

The first option allows the user to specify how the test is administered. “Text Only” will show the word for a short time and disappear. “Audio Only” will say the word without displaying it. Text and audio will do both.

The second option allows a text box on the test center to depict the upcoming words in a list. It also shows the words that need to be retried.

The third option places a definition button on the test center so that when a user encounters an unfamiliar word, the user can click that button and transfer to a dictionary website for the definition of that word.

The fourth option is case sensitivity during the spelling tests. If it is checked then the spelling word will be wrong if both the letters and the case of those letters do not match. If it is unchecked the spelling word will be correct if the letters match but the case does not.

The fifth option determines if the application starts in the compact mode or not. The compact mode brings the user directly to the test center with the other tools available from a menu at the top of the form. When a user does not have the compact mode checked, they are brought to a screen with the tools displayed inside that screen. When this is changed a user must logout and log back in for the change to take affect.

The sixth option determines if a list is created when words are spelled wrong. The list will be called "User Name"'s Error List. The words that are spelled wrong will be copied to this list so that they can be practiced later.

The seventh option sets the length of time the user wants the word to be shown before it disappears. This can be changed to whatever the user desires.

The last option sets the length of time the message is shown after the word is either correctly spelled or misspelled before starting the next word. When these values are changed, click the “Submit” button to save the user’s desired settings.

Under the Email Settings tab, the user can enable email status reports to be sent to those emails in the center list box. The name and email of the user is placed in the first two text boxes. The Subject Box will be the subject of the email that will be sent. It is recommended you fill in the SMTP box. Without the SMTP box being filled, the emails are not guaranteed to be received by those included in your list. Your ISP normally provides you this information. In order to add additional emails, type the email in the last box and click “Add.” To remove an email, select it and click “Remove.” When finished click the “Submit” button.
